Baby Car Seat Installation?
I’ve just insalled a Safe n Sound Royale baby seat (rear facing) in the centre of the backseat and it seems to have far to much side to side movement. Is this normal? I have the seatbelt fitted correctly, the top strap tightend and secured to back parcel shelf and stabiliser bar is out and locked in. Any suggestions??
It should not wiggle side to side more than a tiny bit. sometimes this is due to the shape of the seat. sometimes it sits better without the base. There are two things we used to use to help this problem at the hospital where I worked (Nurses were required to go out and check the car seat placement in the car before sending a baby home from the hospital.) One idea is to roll up a towel tightly and place it between the front edge of the car seat and the back seat to fill the space there. Another is to go to a store and buy the foam rubber shelf covering that comes in rolls …it is designed to be used as shelf paper in kitchen cabinets. Buy a roll of that and cut a piece to cover the back seat of the car where the car seat will be placed. This prevents side to side wiggle. You should look in the instruction book that came with the car seat first for ideas, or call their customer service number too. Also, in many locales, police or fire stations will check your car seat for you…and they are great problem solvers. Oh…one other idea…I just remembered…sometimes the car seat actually fits better on one side or the back seat instead of in the center.
