What is a Travel Cot

A travel cot is often a product of choice when people go camping, travel abroad or simply need an extra bed. Most often used for children, a travel cot can also be a term for a portable bed used by adults in the United States.

 

The main purpose of a travel cot is to provide an extra bed or to provide a bed that is suitable and safe for a baby or small child. Some hotel rooms provide cots as a facility however many parents prefer to bring their own as they know that their own travel cot will be clean and safe for their baby, they also usually know that their baby will be comfortable especially if they travel often and the baby is used to the travel cot.

 

Travel cots come in many designs with the most traditional being a playpen like design with high mesh sides and a foldable mattress in the bottom. Traditional travel cots usually fold up into a bag for easy transportation. Traditional travel cots range in price from £38.99 to £119.99 depending on the additional features, weight and size. Typically a traditional travel cot will be comfortable for a child until they are able to stand and walk unaided but each cot will vary thus check with the manufacturer’s instructions.

 

Pop up travel cots have become popular in recent years especially with the availability and affordability of air travel. A pop up travel cot is usually much smaller and weighs less than a traditional travel cot. Available from £33.99 to £74.99, pop up travel cots are great for babies and usually weight less than one kilogram.

 

Travel cots are also commonly used for camping and therefore special camping travel cots have been developed with netting to keep out bugs and insects which may prove harmful to your baby.
